Panagiotis Evangelidis
In his own words, multi-faceted artist Panagiotis Evangelidis “likes leading multiple lives”. He studied law, but gave it up for making documentaries that fearlessly explore sensitive social topics. Some of his most famous works are Sylvia Robyn (2024), Irving Park (2019) and Tilos Weddings (2008), which documented the first same-sex civil marriages ever held in Greece. In 2024, he was recognized for his overall contribution to cinema and culture by the Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival. He was a co-writer on Panos Koutras’ Strella, one of the most iconic films of Greek queer cinema, and has four novels under his belt, among them The Hand Under the Garment and Sick on a Journey. He is also a formidable translator of Japanese literature and often gives talks on Japanese culture. His artistic work co-exists and converses with his tireless advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights and the Palestinian cause. He currently spends his time between Athens and Berlin.
