Kostis Karpozilos
AUTHOR

Kostis Karpozilos

Born in Ioannina in 1978, Kostis Karpozilos is a historian who has systematically studied transnational intersections, population movements and the history of the Left. His latest book Greek Communism (1912–1974): A Transnational History is a fascinating account featuring traveling rebels, displaced intellectuals, migrants and refugees who traversed the boundaries of the nation both literally and symbolically throughout the 20th century. His earlier work, Red America: Greek Communists in the United States, 1920–1950, published in English by Berghann Books in 2023, focuses on the history of the Greek American Left during the first half of the 20th century, offering an alternative narrative of the Greek American experience and the radical visions of a New World circulating among Greek immigrants. His 2018 book 10+1 Questions and Answers on the Macedonian Question, co-written with Professor Dimitris Christopoulos and published in English by the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation, further demonstrates his commitment to bringing history to a wider audience by exploring complex issues in accessible terms. Karpozilos was a postdoctoral fellow at Columbia University, Princeton University and Oxford University. From 2016 to 2023, he served as Director of the Contemporary Social History Archives (ASKI) in Athens. He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of History and Political Science at Panteion University, Athens.
